ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN BY TEAM IV

 

Team IV from Department of Social Work was headed by  Dr Md. Shahid faculty, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar College, University of Delhi . The student members of the team included: Abhisweta Jha, Tanya Jain, Teresa Dorjee, Malvika Gupta, Ajay Saini, Sanjay Kumar Bharti and Amit Sagar from the Department of Social and  Kumar Satyam, Kaustubh Ranjan, Abhisekh Tiwari from Dr. B.R Ambedkar College, DU.

The team started operations by organizing a one day extensive training session for the volunteers on maternal and child health components. The volunteers then went to the community on experimental basis to find the issues to be picked up. The team members Abhisweta  & Teresa went to the settlements and interacted with the pregnant women. The team has now prepared a cadre of 15-20 such women who are willing to take up the community initiative and start awareness of the pregnant women and lactating mother of the community. The community involvement initiative has got a further boost when many educated youths have started taking classes in the school run by the department.

Keeping in view the fact that diseases have started to spread, the need for basic awareness has assumed importance. The volunteers have prepared a module on health issues. 

When things get tough, the tough get going and the department volunteers have proven this right reached the settlements and distributed Tarpaulin to the victims braving thunder and heavy downpour in the area. The team is now focusing on pin pointed intervention in the area. During this period Prof. Sanjai Bhatt , Head, Department of Social Work also visited the area and streamlined operations. He along with Dr. Manoj Jha has also idenfied Jirwas Mor in Saharsa district as a new work area where conditions are more pathetic. The team also visited Saharsa Urdu Madhymik Vidyalaya and distributed eatables and clothes to the victims on the occasion of Eid.

The team V has left for Saharsa under the leadership of Dr. Atul Pratap Singh, Faculty, BR Ambedkar College. The team includes Ms Preeti Sharma, Ms Mali, Ms Nida, Ms Prabhleen, Ms Mayuri, Mr Zaheer from DSW, Mr Ovais, Mr Pratibh. Mr. Azeem and Mr. Junaid from BR Ambedkar College and Mr Ashish and Mr Chandra Bhusan from the Department of Political Science. DU . Mr Chandra Bhushan and Mr Ashish are also active members of Youth for Equality - an organization of young persons.
